ST. AUGUSTINE – Reuben Pino hit a two-run single to center field off Flagler College reliever
Ethan Jones to give Barry University a 2-1 lead and the Buccaneers went to win 3-2 over the Saints in a non-conference baseball game at Drysdale Field.
Barry improved to 1-2 while Flagler fell to 2-1.
Trailing 1-0 going into the sixth inning, a leadoff walk issued to Justin Lamazares followed by a bunt single by Jonathan Quintana got the Barry rally started. Ryan Baldwin was intentionally walked, after a passed ball put runners in scoring position, to load the bases which chased starter
Ryan Ashworth (0-1) from the game.
In came Jones and Pino sent his first offering into center field to plate two runs. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners up a base and Andrew Rapoza followed with a single to left which scored Baldwin, but Pino was thrown out trying to score from second base.
The Saints got one of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth when
Steven DiPuglia belted a solo home run.
Mike Miles (1-0) tossed 5 1/3 innings, scattered four hits and allowed two runs. Danuel Boreseker pitched a perfect ninth to earn his first save of the year. He retired all three batters, including one via strike out.
Quinatan singled twice for the Buccaneers as did Rapoza.
Ashworth tossed five-plus innings and yielded four hits to go along with three runs. Jones did not give up a run in four innings of work, but allowed three inherited runners score.
Ethan Crout collected two singles.
Flagler is back in action on Friday (Feb. 9) at 4 p.m. against Valdosta State University at Drysdale Field.
