Flagler completes the sweep of No. 23 North Georgia

ST. AUGUSTINE – Jimmy Peck's single to left field in the third inning scored the eventual game-winning run as Flagler College defeated No. 23 (Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Top 40) University of North Georgia 5-2 to complete the series sweep Sunday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game at Drysdale Field.

Flagler extended its winning streak to nine game and improved to 12-2 overall and 6-0 in the Peach Belt. North Georgia dropped to 4-8 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

With the score knotted at 1-all in the third inning, Steven DiPuglia ripped a single up the middle to lead off the inning for the Saints. He moved to second on a wild pitch and took third on a ground out. Two batters later, Jason Moore hit a single into the hole at shortstop to score DiPuglia to give Flagler a 2-1 lead. Moore took second on a wild pitch and then scored on Peck's hit to left. Peck later scored on Sean Lawlor's single to right field.

Louis Pugliese made his first appearance of the season and tossed 4 1/3 innings and scattered six hits as well as allowing one run. Nick Martinez (1-0) got the win in relief as he tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings, allowed one hit and fanned two. Kyle Hansen finished up.

Moore collected a pair of singles, scored a run and had one run batted in. Lawlor went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and scored a run.

Derrick Pickvet (1-2) tossed 5 2/3 innings and surrendered eight hits as well as four runs. He struck out five batters and walked one.

Conner Corbitt went 3-for-4 with a solo home run. Crews Taylor collected two singles and Cade Heil hit a solo home run.

Flagler begins a five-game road trip starting with Tuesday's (Feb. 27) game at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at 6 p.m.
