ST. AUGUSTINE –
Vaughn McCall poured in a game-high 28 points to help Flagler College avenge an earlier loss to Georgia College with an 84-80 victory in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Monday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler snapped a six-game losing streak to improve to 8-14 overall and 5-13 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College dropped to 11-13 overall and 7-11 in conference play.
McCall scored 18 of his 28 points in the second half alone. He made 9-of-13 from the field and sank six 3-pointers, which ties his season-high.
The game featured seven ties and eight lead changes. The Saints held a slim 40-39 lead at the half.
A Justin Cave 3-pointer gave the Bobcats a 73-70 lead with 4:03 left in regulation, but the Saints closed the game on a 14-7 run. McCall and
Damerit Brown each scored five points in the run.
Jeffercy Jean added 17 points and tied his career-high of seven assists.
Cortlin Davis came off the bench to contribute 14 points, six assists and five rebounds. Brown finished with 13 points.
The Flagler defense forced 11 Georgia College turnovers and those were turned into 16 points. The Saints also shot a NCAA Division II era record 76.5 percent (13-17) from 3-point range. The previous record was 62.5 percent (10-16) at Francis Marion University, Jan. 7, 2015.
Flagler also made 92.9 percent (13-14) of its free throws.
Cave led the Bobcats with 24 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. Jordan Thomas and Kohl Roberts each added 14 points. Isaac Thomas scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Roberts also grabbed eight boards. Jordan Thomas tallied eight assists.
Flagler hits the road to face Georgia Southwestern State University on Wednesday (Feb. 14) at 7:30 p.m.
