ST. AUGUSTINE – Clayton State University closed the game on a 30-10 run to post a 94-74 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.
Clayton State won its seventh game in a row to improve to 16-5 overall and 14-3 in the Peach Belt. Flagler's loss dropped its overall record to 7-14 and 4-13 in conference play.
During that run, the Lakers shot 55.6 percent (10-18) from the field and made 8-of-9 from the free throw line. The Saints were held to 30 percent (3-10) and had seven turnovers.
Damerit Brown sank one of his five 3-pointers with 11:04 left in the game to tie the score at 64. The Lakers went on to score 11 of the next 13 points to pull away from the Saints.
Jaylen Taylor recorded a double-double with a game-high 29 points to go along with a game-high 15 rebounds for Clayton State. Justin Tuckson added 15 points while Aubrey McRae tacked on 13 points and four assists. Nathan Powell flirted with a triple double with nine points, eight rebounds and six assists.
The Lakers out-rebounded the Saints 47-30 and had 21 offensive boards which led to 25 second chance points.
Brown led the Saints with 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists. McCall added 15 points.
Cortlin Davis came off the bench to provide 12 points, six rebounds and four assists before fouling out.
Chris Williams added 11 points, four rebounds and blocked two shots.
Up next for the Saints is Georgia College on Monday (Feb. 10) at 7:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
