Flagler men finish third at PBCs; Three runners earn all-conference honors

BEECH ISLAND, S.C.  – The Flagler College men's cross country team finished in third place at the Peach Belt Conference Championship held Saturday morning at the Redcliffe Plantation cross country course.

"Our freshmen (Connor Norton, Aseli Adum, and Evan Fuller) really came through for us today when we needed them the most," said head coach Brian Beil. "Without Anthony Colasanti, who had to pull out midway through, we knew we would need our freshmen to step up in order to hold off two strong teams in Georgia College and Columbus State. This was not our best possible result today, but we had a few strong individual performances. We have one more chance to bring it all together on the same day when we head up to North Georgia in two weeks for the regional." 

Connor Norton was the top finisher for the Saints as he posted a season-best 8K time of 25:51.0 and finished in 12th place to earn all-conference accolades. Trenton Liberty (26:03.3) and Aseli Adum (26:05.0) finished in 14th and 15th places, respectively, to earn all-conference honors.

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke finished in first place with 36 points, but Augusta University finished a close second with 40. The Braves had three runners finish in the top six while the Jaguars had four in the top 10.

Heading up the 72-man field was Joshua Chepkesir of UNC Pembroke who posted a time of 24:22.3. He finished just 19.1 seconds ahead of teammate Silus Kipkoech (24:41.4).

Evan Fuller finished in 18th place with a time of 26:09.3 while Crisman Jones crossed the finish line at 26:17.4 to finish in 22nd place. Justin Greene posted a time of 27:18.8 and finished in 36th place. Anthony Whelan (27:56.5) and Hunter Ingle (29:21.6) rounded out the Flagler contingent.

Up next for Flagler is the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Nov. 17 at Oakwood, Georgia.
