ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College out-scored Rollins College 24-3 in the second quarter and went on to win 66-50 in a non-conference women's basketball game Friday afternoon at the Clemente Center.
Flagler improved to 3-1 overall while Rollins (1-1) suffered its first loss of the season. It was the Saints' first win over the Tars in the last 12 meetings.
"We are excited to get back into the win column," said head coach
Erika Lang-Montgomery. "I was really pleased with our defensive effort in the second quarter. That really ignited us going into the second half. I was proud of the way we withstood their late run. Kierra (Crane) hit a big 3-pointer and Chris (Wilson) had a big block that gave us a lift late in the game."
The Tars held a 14-10 lead after one quarter of play, but could only muster one made field goal on five shots in the second quarter. In contrast, Flagler made 10-of-18 from the floor (55.6 percent). The Tars committed 10 turnovers in the second quarter, which led to 17 Flagler points.
Chris Wilson recorded her first double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. She added five steals to her line.
Tabitha Odabe came off the bench to score a game-high 18 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field.
Kierra Crane chipped in with 12 pints and five rebounds.
