Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Flagler wins the “Battle of the Saints”

ST. AUGUSTINE – Kierra Crane had another big game as she followed up her 27-point performance from Friday evening with a 20-point outburst today to help Flagler rout Limestone College 84-53 in a non-conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.

For the first time since the 2010-11 season, Flagler opens the season with a 2-0 record. That season was head coach Erika Lang-Montgomery's second season. Limestone fell to 0-2.

"I was happy to see us put together two solid halves of basketball," said Lang-Montgomery. "I thought we did a good job of taking care of the ball and I was pleased with our ball movement. Today was an overall great team effort. Now we need to get ready for next week's opponents."

Crane finished the game 5-of-8 from the field and she made 3-of-5 from 3-point range. Chris Wilson added 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting and she tacked on nine rebounds. Tabitha Odabe recorded her second double-double in as many games with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Dayuna Johnson chipped in with 10 points and six assists.

Flagler controlled the paint as it out-scored Limestone 42-20. The Saints sizzled from the field in the second and third quarters shooting 60 and 57.1 percent, respectively.

Schekinah Bimpa led Limestone with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Quin Byrd added 12 points and five assists.

Limestone was frigid at time from the field. The Saints made only 25 percent of their attempts in the third quarter and followed that with a 27.8 percent mark in the fourth quarter.

Flagler went on a 9-0 spurt at the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second quarter for some breathing room. Odabe's bucket with 9:03 left in the second period gave the Saints a 21-11 lead and capped the 2-minute, 14-second run.

A 15-0 run by Flagler in the third quarter saw the Saints lead swell to 27 (59-32). Limestone went 0-for-7 from the field and committed five turnovers that led to seven Flagler points.

Flagler hosts Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Tuesday (Nov. 13) at 11 a.m. on "Education Day" at Flagler Gymnasium.
