FLORENCE, S.C. –
Karlie Redfern tied a pair of career-highs with 19 kills and a .410 hitting percentage to lead Flagler College to a sweep (25-18, 25-17, 25-10) of Francis Marion University in Peach Belt Conference match Saturday afternoon at the Smith University Center.
Flagler improved to 8-10 overall and 3-3 in the Peach Belt. The Saints defeated the Patriots for the seventh straight time and now lead the series 17-4. Francis Marion fell to 9-9 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
"This was our best match of the year as our team played strong, clean volleyball and executed skills," said head coach
Matt Affolder. "Karlie was fantastic on the attack and her serve receive control all weekend was great.
Sarah Schark had her best match as a Saint and she has played very well all season long. Her defensive aggressiveness was outstanding. I thought
Tara Savisky was locked in all weekend and it was evident today as she was locating very well and finding our middles in many different transition situations for kills."
Redfern only had three errors on 39 swings.
Raquel Kulak added eight kills and hit .429 while
Morgan Hall, Savisky, and
Logan Garcia each contributed five kills. Savisky tallied a match-high 36 assists while
Kayla Norelli led the defense with a match-high 14 digs. Schark tacked on 13 digs.
Flagler hit a season-best .381 with 45 kills and only eight errors on 97 swings. The Saints were red-hot in the third set hitting .609 with 14 kills on 23 errorless swings.
Georgia Garrison led the Patriots with eight kills and eight digs. Finn Millians tallied 23 assists and had nine digs. Courtney Abdur-Rahim finished with seven kills and four aces.
In the opening set, the Saints took advantage of a pair of errors by the Patriots to take a 17-13 lead. Redfern led Flagler with five kills and Savisky tallied 12 assists.
The second set had nine ties and four lead changes. With the score tied at 14, Kulak's kill broke the deadlock and
Rachel Porada followed with an ace as the Saints would go on to win 25-17. Redfern hit .375 with seven kills and one error on 16 swings.
Flagler scored the first six points in the third set and never looked back. Redfern had seven kills on 10 errorless swings for a .700 hitting percentage.
Flagler heads to Rome, Georgia for a pair of non-conference matches next Saturday (Oct. 13) against Mississippi College (2 p.m.) and Shorter University (6 p.m.).
