GREENWOOD, S.C. – Michael Leach's goal in the 33
rd minute would be all the offense that No. 7 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) Lander University would need in a 2-0 win over Flagler College in the regular season finale for both teams Saturday night at Van Taylor Stadium.
Lander finishes the season with a 13-1-2 overall record and a 6-1-0 mark in the Peach Belt. The Bearcats will be the No. 2 seed and has a bye to the semifinal round at Blanchard Woods Park.
Flagler concluded its regular season with a 5-9-1 overall record and a 3-3-1 record in conference play. The Saints are the No. 5 seed and will head to Florence, South Carolina to face Francis Marion University on Tuesday (Oct. 30) in a first round match.
Lander added an insurance goal in the 55
th minute when Oliver Brock scored.
Jacob Withers turned in a clean sheet with two saves.
Mel Broughton tallied eight saves for the Saints.
Lander out-shot Flagler 22-2 and held a 10-2 spread in shots on goal. The Bearcats took the only two corner kicks in the match. Both teams were whistled for eight fouls.
