FLORENCE, S.C. – Oliver Drakenhammar provided the only offense Francis Marion University would need in a 1-0 victory over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference Tournament first round match at Hartzler Field.
Francis Marion, the No. 4 seed, improved to 9-6-0 overall and will advance to the semifinal round to take on the top seed Young Harris College on Friday. Flagler, the No. 5 seed, ends its season with a 5-10-1 record.
After a scoreless first half, Sam Pollard sent a long through ball to Drakenhammar who knocked in a shot from nine yards out. That was in the 52
nd minute.
Flagler had a couple of good look to score the equalizer, but shots were either high or wide of the goal.
Kristoffer Gregenaes turned in a clean sheet with three saves while
Mel Broughton tallied three saves for the Saints.
Francis Marion out-shot Flagler 13-9, but only held a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. The Patriots had three corner kicks while the Saints had two. There were 35 fouls called in the match with Flagler being caught 19 times.
