Redfern’s double-double propels Saints past Bobcats, 3-1

ST. AUGUSTINE – Karlie Redfern recorded a career-high 23 kills to go along with 17 digs for her eighth double-double of the season as Flagler College defeated Georgia College 3-1 (25-20, 25-6, 25-27, 25-15) in a Peach Belt Conference volleyball match Friday night at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler improved to 10-11 overall and 4-3 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College dropped to 11-9 overall and 4-4 in conference play.

"We knew Georgia College was coming off a big win at Augusta on Tuesday, and I loved the determination and physical play our team showed, especially from the service line and on defense," said head coach Matt Affolder. "Karlie put up big-time numbers and looked very comfortable and in rhythm offensively. I thought our entire back row was stellar, most notably Maddie Erwin who really solidified our defense and Rachel Porada who was dominant from the service line in putting pressure on their passers."

Redfern was close to flawless tonight as she had just four errors on 48 swings for a .396 hitting percentage. She added two block assists to her line. Raquel Kulak added 15 kills while Morgan Hall finished with a season-high 11 kills. Tara Savisky surpassed the 50-assist plateau again with 54. She had 58 in the match earlier this season at Georgia College. Kayla Norelli corralled a match-high 19 digs and added three aces. Porada also had three aces. Cadie O'Hern recorded four block assists.

Flagler's 63 kills was second only to the 67 it had this year at Georgia College. The 63 assists by the Saints was also the second-most this season. The nine service aces were the most this season since the 12 against Erskine College at the beginning of the year.

Taylor Svehla led the Bobcats with 12 kills and nine total blocks while Libby Bochniak recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs. Kayla Brockway just missed a double-double with 32 assists and nine digs. Jordyn Moellering collected 18 digs.

Georgia College was held to a -.120 hitting percentage in the second set where the Bobcats had just four kills and seven errors on 25 swings.

Flagler hosts Augusta University tomorrow (Oct. 20) at 2 p.m. at Flagler Gym.
