WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Four different Flagler College players scored in a 4-1 win over Palm Beach Atlantic University in a non-conference women's soccer match Wednesday evening at the Marshall and Vera Lea Rinker Athletic Campus.
Flagler extended its winning streak to three and is undefeated in its last seven (6-0-1) matches. The Saints improved to 9-2-1 overall. Palm Beach Atlantic dropped to 6-7-2 overall.
"The team put the match away in the first half," said head coach
Ashley Martin. "We set the tone by scoring with our first meaningful attack and controlled the possession after that."
Sara Sandberg scored her fifth first goal as she scored 1-minute and 10 seconds in to the match.
Charlene Nowotny provided the game-winning goal in the 10
th minute when she tucked her shot underneath the crossbar to give the Saints 2-0 lead.
Lorena Lopez added an unassisted goal in the 37
th minute and Flagler took the 3-0 advantage into the half.
A little over four minutes after a PBA penalty conversion,
Maria Castorino Mujica headed in
Concepcion Sanchez's pass in the 81
st minute. It was Sanchez's second assists of the match.
Sarah-Lisa Dubel recorded four saves for Flagler while Madison Chiola tallied six saves for Palm Beach Atlantic.
Flagler out-shot PBA 18-7, including 10-5 in shots on goal. The Saints also enjoyed a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Each team was whistled for 11 fouls.
Flagler remains on the road as it faces Peach Belt Conference rival Lander University on Saturday at 2 p.m.
