ST. AUGUSTINE – Augusta University used a late 17-9 run to hold off Flagler College 89-80 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
Augusta improved to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in the Peach Belt. Flagler fell to 4-5 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Flagler had trailed by as many as 13 in the second half, but went on a 16-4 run to pull to within one point (64-63) with 9:39 left in the game. However, just a short time later, Augusta went on its run to put the game out of reach. Mikkel Kolstad accounted for nine of the 17 points in the run.
Kolstad led four Jaguars in double-digit scoring with a game-high 29 points. He sank 4-of-8 from 3-point range and added five rebounds to go along with four assists. Deane Williams finished with a double-double with17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Tamyrik Fields and Tyvez Monroe each added 12 points. Fields dished out seven assists and had three blocks while Monroe grabbed eight boards.
Damerit Brown scored 18 of his team-high 22 points in the first half. He made four 3-pointers and grabbed seven rebounds.
Vaughn McCall added 16 points while
Cortlin Davis contributed to 14 points, five assists and four rebounds.
Jeffercy Jean added 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
Flagler heads to Greenwood, South Carolina on Saturday to take on Lander University at 3:30 p.m.
