Damerit Brown recorded his second double-double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds, but it was not enough as the University of North Carolina Pembroke rolled to a 92-65 in over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Flagler Gymnasium.
UNC Pembroke improved to 15-4 overall and 11-2 in the Peach Belt. Flagler fell to 7-10 overall and 4-9 in conference play.
The Braves used a 11-0 spurt early in the game to wipe out a 5-2 Saints lead. UNCP never relinquished the lead.
Tyrell Kirk led all scorers with 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting while corralling eight rebounds and tallying four steals. Akia Pruitt recorded a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. He also had three blocked shots. James Murray-Boyles contributed 18 points and eight rebounds coming off the bench. Nigel Grant tacked on 10 points. David Strother dished out a game-high 11 assists and just missed a double-double with nine points.
The Braves shot 55.1 percent (38-69) from the field, which included a 57.9 percent (22-38) mark in the first half alone. UNCP also knocked down 10 three-pointers, the most Flagler has allowed since Dec. 16 (11 vs. North Georgia).
Vaughn McCall added 14 points while
Jeffercy Jean tallied 12 more.
The Saints struggled in the second half making only 25.8 percent (8-31) of their shots.
Flagler will look to re-group and hit the road on Wednesday to face Augusta University on Wednesday (Jan. 31).
