ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College's
Damerit Brown tied his season-high with 27 points, 18 of those coming in the second half, in an 88-67 rout of Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Thursday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler improved to 6-8 overall and to 3-7 in the Peach Belt. The 21-point margin of victory was the largest by the Saints since joining the league in 2009-10. Georgia Southwestern suffered its second consecutive defeat and fell to 9-5 overall and 5-5 in conference play.
Brown made 9-of-17 from the field and drained 7-of-10 from 3-point range. He was a perfect 6-for-6 from behind the arc in the second half and just missed one other jumper in the final 20 minutes.
Jeffercy Jean added 13 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Cortlin Davis and
Vaughn McCall each scored 12 points while
Chris Williams recorded his third double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
The Saints only trailed twice and took the lead (12-10) for good on a Brown trey with 14:44 to go in the first half. A little later, Flagler used an 8-0 spurt to pull out to a 25-15 lead after a Davis layup.
Flagler held a 39-31 lead at the half.
Hasaan Buggs recorded a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Hurricanes. Andre Statam and Devin Watson each scored 12 points while Jason Weaver deposited 11 points. R.J. Sessions entered the game averaging a team-best 14.6 points per game, but was limited to nine points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
Flagler heads to Florence, South Carolina where it will face Francis Marion University on Saturday (Jan. 20) at 3:30 p.m.
