Mountain Lions rally late past Saints

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College used a 7-2 run in the final minute of the game to race past Flagler College for a 79-75 win in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the YHC Basketball Arena.

Young Harris snapped a three-game losing streak to improve to 4-11 overall and 3-6 in the Peach Belt. Flagler lost its fifth consecutive game and dropped to 4-8 overall and 1-7 in conference play. The two teams split the regular season series.

Flagler's Jeffercy Jean made the second of two free throws to give the Saints a 73-72 lead with 1:37 left in regulation. Young Harris' Corey Nelson put back a missed shot to put the Mountain Lions on top 74-73 with 1:13 left. Jean was fouled again and sank both free throws to give Flagler a 75-74 lead with 1:03 remaining. That would be the last points the Saints would score.

Ben Waterhouse sank a 3-pointer to give the Mountain Lions a 77-75 lead with 32 seconds left. The Saints turned the ball over and were forced to foul. Antonio Wade made both attempts with 13 seconds left to wrap up the game.

The Saints did not make a field goal in the final 6:45, which allowed the Mountain Lions to close the game on a 24-6 run in the last 5:22.

Nicksen Blanc led five Young Harris players in double figures with 18 points. He completed the double-double with 12 rebounds. Zion Williams came off the bench to added 18 points while Wade chipped in with 14. Nelson and Waterhouse each scored 12 points.

Jean scored a season-high 20 points for the Saints on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. Cortlin Davis recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Chris Williams grabbed a team-high 12 boards.

The Saints committed 17 turnovers which led to 25 Mountain Lion points. Flagler dominated on the glass out-rebounding Young Harris 52-37.

Flagler takes on the University of North Georgia on Monday (Jan. 15) at 3:30 p.m. at Dahlonega.
