ST. AUGUSTINE – Doniel Dean led five players in double figures with a game-high 18 points as the University of South Carolina Aiken defeated Flagler College 87-67 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Flagler Gym.
USC Aiken improved to 7-4 overall and 4-3 in the Peach Belt. Flagler suffered its fourth consecutive loss and dropped to 4-7 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
The Pacers used an 11-0 run midway through the first half to wipe out a 15-14 Saints lead. Austin Grimes accounted for nine of those points in the 1:39 spurt.
USC Aiken also closed the half on an 11-3 run to take a commanding 50-35 lead into the locker room.
Faison Brock added 15 points and seven rebounds for the Pacers wile Henry Bolton III tacked on 14 points. Grimes finished with 11 points and Robert Hall recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Dean tallied a game-high nine assists.
USC Aiken shot a red-hot 57.1 percent (20-35) in the first half and finished the game shooting 54.5 percent from the floor. Brock made 70 percent (7-10) of his shots from the field.
Damerit Brown tallied a team-high 14 points for the Saints.
Austin Howard and
Vaughn McCall added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Chris Williams added nine points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots.
Flagler will play a pair of games this weekend in northern Georgia. On Saturday, the Saints visit Young Harris College at 3:30 p.m.
