Breen’s two goals help Saints improve to 3-0

NEWBERRY, S.C. – Annie Breen scored the first two goals of the match as Flagler College rolled past Newberry College 5-0 in a non-conference women's soccer match Friday afternoon at the Smith Road Complex.

Flagler improved to 3-0-0, its best start since the 2012 season when the Saints started 4-0. Newberry fell to 1-2-0 overall.

Breen got the Saints on the board in the fifth minute and scored on a header just nine minutes later.

Flagler took that 2-0 lead into the half.

A foul in the box by the Wolves' Samantha Molina led to a penalty kick attempt by Fio Fustagno in the 61st minute. Fustagno buried the ball in the back of the net to give the Saints a comfortable 3-0 lead.

Ali Ritter and Charlene Nowotny added goals later in the half.

Sarah-Lisa Dubel saved one shot in the first half and Maddison Lipson tallied four in the second half for Flagler. Korina Martinez collected three saves for Newberry in the first half while Jayleen Gant tallied four in the second stanza.

The Saints out-shot the Wolves 24-11 and held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Flagler heads to Salisbury, North Carolina to take on Catawba College on Sunday (Sept. 10) at 2 p.m.
