Flagler holds off Embry-Riddle, 1-0

ST. AUGUSTINE – Charlene Nowotny scored the match's only goal as Flagler College defeated Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in the final game of the Flagler Invitational Sunday afternoon at Saints Field.

Flagler improved its overall mark to 2-0 and Embry-Riddle fell to 1-1 on the season.

Nowotny handled a pass from Abby Austin 10 yards outside the box and beat a defender before burying her first goal of the year with just six seconds left before the half.

Sarah-Lisa Dubel made one save in the Saints' win, but denied several crosses and corner kicks to keep a clean sheet.

Fanny Kristiansson made one save in the loss for the Eagles.

Embry-Riddle fired just one shot on goal and Flagler took just two in the tightly contested defensive match.

Eckerd College rolled past Spring Hill College, 6-0, in the early game on Sunday.

Flagler will travel to play Newberry (S.C.) College on Sept. 8 at 4:30 p.m.
