FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
Myiah Russack-Cradeur scored the game-winning goal just over 10 minutes into the second half to give No. 25 (United Soccer Coaches Top 25) Flagler College a 1-0 victory over Nova Southeastern University Saturday afternoon at the NSU Soccer Complex.
The Saints improved to 6-0-1 overall, matching their best start to a season since 2012. The Sharks fell to 5-1-0 overall. Saturday's defeat marked the first home loss for Nova Southeastern since Sept. 11, 2015.
Brooke DeLauder connected with Russack-Cradeur on a free kick from 40 yards out early in the second half. Russack-Cradeur finished the play with her fourth goal of the season.
The Sharks' Emma Keikkila put a scare into the Saints faithful with a clear look at the goal in the 89
th minute, but saw the would-be equalizer sail high in what turned out to be the Nova Southeastern's final chance at a comeback.
Alexys Nowak took a team-high five shots for the Sharks.
Charlene Nowotny and
Maria Castorino-Mujica each rattled off three shots for the Saints.
Most of the offensive pressure came in the first half forcing
Sarah-Lisa Dubel to make five saves for Flagler and Jordan Lentz to make four saves for Nova Southeastern. Dubel saved seven shots overall for her second clean sheet of the season and Lentz made six stops. The Sharks also held the corner kick edge, 5-2.
Flagler plays Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus on Wednesday (Sept. 27) at 1 p.m.
