No. 25 Flagler soars past Lander

ST. AUGUSTINE – Myiah Russack-Cradeur scored a pair of goals to help No. 25 (United Soccer Coaches Top 25) Flagler College to a 3-1 victory over Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Wednesday evening at Saints Field.

Flagler remains undefeated with a 5-0-1 overall record and a 1-0-1 mark in the Peach Belt. Lander dropped to 4-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.

Charlene Nowotny broke the 1-all tie with the first of two successful penalty kick tries for the Saints. Nowotny's came in the 66th minute.

Russack-Cradeur tacked on the insurance goal, the second penalty kick of the match, almost seven minutes later.

Russack-Cradeur got Flagler on the board first, in the 27th minute, when she knocked in Katie Reed's initial shot that was knocked down by Bearcat keeper Sarah Owen. Russack-Cradeur gathered the loose ball and buried it in the back of the net.

That score would hold for the entire first half.

Just 43 seconds into the second half, Hannah Martin scored off Juliette Vidal's free kick for the equalizer.

Sarah-Lisa Dubel recorded four saves for the Saints while Owen turned away eight shots.

Flagler out-shot Lander 13-8 and held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks. The fouls were equally distributed with each team receiving 13 reprimands. Lander played the final 13:57 with 10 players due to Kayla Walker receiving a straight red card.

Flagler heads to Fort Lauderdale to meet Nova Southeastern University on Saturday (Sept. 23) at 5 p.m.
