ST. AUGUSTINE – The Flagler volleyball team posted a pair of three-game sweeps to complete the Flagler Saints Invitational with a perfect 3-0 slate. The Saints swept Shippensburg University (25-17, 25-16, 25-16) and then took care of Florida Tech (25-18, 25-20, 25-15) on Saturday at Flagler Gymnasium.
Other scores on Saturday from the tournament were Florida Tech 3, Purdue Northwest 0 and Shippensburg 3, Purdue Northwest 0.
For the day,
Taja Valmyr led the Saints with 28 kills and sported a .431 hitting percentage.
Sara Davis led the team with a .481 hitting percentage as she had 27 kills with two errors on 52 swings.
In the opener vs. Shippensburg, Valmyr recorded a match-high 13 kills and finished with a .522 hitting percentage. She had one error on 23 swings against the Raiders. Valmyr also collected seven digs. Davis added 10 kills, hit .333 and added three block assists as well as three aces.
Karlie Redfern tacked on seven kills, five digs and three aces.
Kayla Norelli led the defense with 10 digs while
Tara Savisky narrowly missed a double-double with 29 assists and eight digs.
The Saints hit a sizzling .337 for the match with 40 kills and only nine errors on 92 swings.
Gabriella Johnson and Kendall Johnson each recorded eight kills for the Raiders. Megan Forstburg collected a match-high 11 digs while Emily Hangen tallied 21 assists. Morgan DeFloria had three aces.
In the nightcap, Davis recorded a season-high 17 kills and hit a blistering .607 with 28 errorless swings against the Panthers. Valmyr notched the first double-double of the season with 15 kills and 12 digs. Redfern added eight kills and 10 digs and Norelli finished with 10 digs. Savisky tallied a season-high 48 assists.
Raquel Kulak added three block assists.
Kelly Germain led Florida Tech with eight kills. Kierstan Rosa recorded a double-double with 21 assists and 11 digs. Kyra Atkinson collected a match-high 17 digs.
Flagler hosts the Flagler Saints Classic next weekend which features regional foes Wingate University, Queens University of Charlotte and North Greenville University. Lindenwood University will make the trek from Missouri with a familiar face, former Armstrong State University head coach Will Condon. The Saints open the tournament with Wingate on Friday (Sept. 8) at 11 a.m.
