YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. –
Fio Fustagno scored the equalizer in the second half as No. 25 (United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll) Flagler College played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw with Young Harris College in a mutual Peach Belt Conference opener Saturday afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Saints advanced its overall mark to 4-0-1 and is 0-0-1 in conference play. The Mountain Lions own a 2-2-1 overall record after the match and a 0-0-1 mark in the Peach Belt.
Fustagno collected a loose ball on the left side and found the back of the net in the 69
th minute to tie the match, her third goal of the season.
Baylee Roche put Young Harris up 1-0 early when she finished a cross at the top of the box from Maria Guzman.
Roche took a team-high six shots for Young Harris. The Mountain Lions rattled off 22 shots while the Saints countered with 21 shots. Fustagno took five shots, four on goal while
Katie Reed fired a team-best six shots, four on goal. Both had point blank shots midway through the second half that were saved.
Sarah-Lisa Dubel and Nicole Medeiros battled in goal for Flagler and Young Harris, respectively. Dubel made eight saves for the Saints, including five in the second half, and Medeiros tallied 12 saves, including seven in the second half.
Flagler will return to St. Augustine to face Lander University on Wednesday (Sept. 20) at Saints Field.
