ST. AUGUSTINE -
Megan Miller drove in the game-winning run in the seventh inning as Flagler College defeated Georgia College, 9-8, during the second game of Friday's Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Flagler Field. Flagler's offense exploded early in the first game en route to a 9-0 five-inning run-rule victory.
The Saints improved their overall record to 33-18 and 16-6 in conference play. The Bobcats fell to 30-18 overall and 16-8 in the Peach Belt after being swept.
Trailing by three runs entering the seventh inning during the second game, Flagler loaded the bases with two outs.
Maria Kappos sent a bases-clearing double to left-center to tie to contest, 8-8. Two batters later, Miller's game-ending single lifted the Saints over the Bobcats.
Flagler rallied from behind on two different occasions before the seventh inning. The Bobcats scratched two runs across on an error in the first, but the Saints answered back in the third when
Whitney Woodard blasted a two-run shot to left field.
Georgia College scored twice in the fourth inning with the help of an error and a run-scoring single by Danielle Berstein. Flagler tied the contest in the home half, 4-4, as
Garland Evans and
Maddy Murphy scored on a double to left field by Kappos.
Hannah Coursey put the Bobcats back in front in the fifth with a two-run triple to right-center. Amber Coy extended to advantage to 7-4 with a single to shortstop to send Coursey home.
Flagler clawed back within 7-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bigale doubled and scored on a single by
Natalie Murphy. Georgia College tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
Kappos drove in five of the Saints' nine runs with two doubles.
Natalie Murphy went 3-for-4.
Cassidy Rice went 3-for-4 for the Bobcats, including a double. Coursey and Bernstein each contributed two hits, including a triple for Coursey.
Callie Reed (4-4) earned the win after she allowed one run on one hit during her two innings out of the bullpen.
Katelynn Smith, Flagler's starter, allowed just one earned run through five innings.
Faith Flanders (6-3) suffered the loss for Georgia College and allowed nine runs on nine hits over 6.2 innings.
Flagler's eight-run second inning, with the help of four extra-base hits, sealed the win.
Morgan Murphy and
Alli-Ann Bigale hit back-to-back run-scoring singles. Conley,
Natalie Murphy and
Maddy Murphy immediately followed with three-straight doubles to drive in five runs. Kappos capped the scoring with a double to right-center to send
Maddy Murphy home.
Conley collected a game-high three hits, including a homer and a double, scored twice and drove in three runs.
Natalie Murphy, who also drove in two runs,
Maddy Murphy and Kappos each tallied two hits.
Bernstein went 2-for-3 for the Bobcats.
Ally Marcano (22-6) tossed five shutout innings and allowed just one walk. She struck out three batters and allowed five hits.
Kayley Price (18-5) suffered the loss for Georgia College after she surrendered seven runs on seven hits through 1.1 innings. Brooke Taylor took over in the second inning and allowed two runs on five hits. Neither pitcher issued a walk.
Flagler will welcome Augusta University to Flagler Field for "Senior Day" tomorrow (April 15) at 1 p.m.
