Game Recap: Softball |

Saints swept by homer-happy Pirates

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Flagler College dropped both games of Sunday's Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Armstrong State University by a 6-0 final at the Pirate Softball Field.

Flagler fell to 22-17 overall and 5-5 in conference play. Armstrong improved its overall mark to 17-16 and 7-1 in the PBC.

In the first game, Ally Marcano (17-5) and Jane Trzaska (7-3) locked into a pitcher's duel through the first four innings. Marcano allowed just one hit until the fifth and Trzaska surrendered two during that same stretch.

The Pirates' offense came to life in the fifth as they scored four times behind four singles. Natalie Corbin drove in the first two runs on a hit up the middle. Hannah Reppert and Autumn Parrish each picked up an RBI.

Armstrong State pulled away with two runs in the sixth to grab a comfortable 6-0 lead.

Maria Kappos tallied a team-high two hits for the Saints. Whitney Woodard also collected a single and stole a base to increase her season mark to 31

Marcano suffered the loss after she allowed six runs on five hits. She walked five batters and fanned eight during five-plus innings. Callie Reed tossed a scoreless sixth.

Trzaska fired a shutout and surrendered four hits over seven innings. She issued just one walk and struck out six.

Armstrong State took control of the latter game much earlier in the contest than the first contest. Corbin's bases-loaded walk in the second inning scored the first run.

The Pirates erupted for three home runs in the third. Parrish launched a two-run shot to left-center and Trzaska followed with a solo blast. Macy Coleman added a two-out two-run homer to cap the scoring.

Woodard doubled for the Saints. Mackenzie Conley and Garland Evans each singled.

Katelynn Smith (4-7) took the loss. She tossed 2.2 innings and allowed six runs on seven hits. Marcano threw 3.1 scoreless frames out of the bullpen and only gave up one hit.

Sierra Peebles (8-3) held Flagler scoreless on three hits over seven innings. She did not allow a walk.

The Saints will return to St. Augustine to host Francis Marion University at Flagler Field on Saturday (March 24) at 1 p.m.
