ST. AUGUSTINE – Augusta University shot 51.6 percent (16-31) in the second half to pull away from Flagler College for an 86-75 victory in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Mon day night at Flagler Gymnasium.
Augusta snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 17-6 overall and remained in a tie for first place in the East Division with a 10-5 record. Flagler fell to 9-13 overall and 3-12 in conference play.
Tyvaz Monroe scored all of his 18 points in the first half and he added six rebounds and four assists. Vlad Cobzaru scored 13 of his 17 points in thew second half. Tamyrik Fields recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Keshun Sherrill struggled from the field as he made just 5-of-17 from the field, but managed to tally 15 points.
Cortlin Davis led the Saints with 17 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Vaughn McCall chipped in with 15 points, five assists and three steals while
Jeffercy Jean added 11 points.
Flagler held a 43-41 lead at the half.
For the second consecutive game the Saints had a hard time knocking down 3-pointers. Flagler shot 15.4 percent (4-26) last Saturday against Lander and then shot just 13.6 percent (4-29) from long range. The Saints were 1-for-16 from 3-point range in the second half.
Flagler will look to get back into the win column on Saturday (Feb. 11) at Francis Marion University. Opening tip is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
