ST. AUGUSTINE – The Flagler College pitching staff tossed a pair of shutouts in Saturday's non-conference doubleheader helping the team sweep Paine College 10-0 and 9-0 at Drysdale Field.
Flagler swept the three-game series out-scoring Paine 41-0.
Dustin Dye (1-0) fired six scoreless innings allowing just three hits in the first game. The righty fanned eight batters and only issued one walk. Dye earned his first win of the season.
Ethan Jones tossed a perfect seventh inning in relief of Dye.
Jason Moore (2-4, 2RBI) belted a two-run home run in Flagler's three-run first inning.
Dylan Jones went 2-for-4 with a double and he scored two runs.
Ethan Crout singled, doubled, scored three runs and drove in two more.
Cole Ondrejka singled twice and knocked in three runs.
Jake Hathaway added a pair singles.
Adam Martin (0-1) took the loss on the hill for the Lions. He tossed six innings, allowed 13 hits and seven earned runs. Kendrick Elder, Fentress Henderson and Jahziel Morel each hit a single.
In the second game,
Michael Maiocco gave up just two hits while striking out 13 and only allowing two walks.
Louis Pugliese and
Ryan Ashworth each tossed an inning out of the bullpen and struck out a batter.
Igor Baez hit a two-run double to left field to give the Saints a 3-0 lead in the second inning..
Flagler plated five more in the sixth.
Dylan Jones had an RBI triple while
Sean Lawlor drove in a pair of runs with a double.
Ethan Crout and
Jason Moore added RBI singles improving the Saints' lead to 9-0.
Jones finished the second game with a perfect 4-for-4 performance at the plate and was a home run shy of the cycle. He scored three runs and drove in two more. Crout singled twice, scored a run and knocked in another. Hathway hit a single and a double.
Zach Radar (0-1) went the distance, six innings, for the Lions. He allowed 12 hits and just three earned runs due to three errors committed by the Lions' defense.
Elder, Morel, Gabriel Guzman and Aaron Ushery each collected a base hit.
Flagler will welcome Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to Drysdale Field on Tuesday (Feb. 7) at 6 p.m.
