Saints walk over Lions in season opener

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Flagler College batters drew 13 walks, including three with the bases load, and also pounded out 13 hits en route to a 22-0 rout of Paine College Friday evening in a mutual non-conference season opening baseball game at Drysdale Field.

Cole Ondrejka stroked an RBI single to center field in the bottom of the first to stake the Saints to a 1-0 lead.

That would be all of the offense Cooper Wallace (1-0) would need as he picked up the win after tossing five innings and he scattered two hits. Wallace struck out six batters with just one walk. MacLain Larson, Nick Martinez, Dante Pagano and Luke Cooksey all pitched one inning in relief.

Dylan Jones hit three doubles, drove in two runs and scored two more to lead the Flagler offense. Jeremy Taylor singled, tripled, scored three runs and knocked in another. Ja'Kobi Dasher, who entered the game in the sixth inning for Taylor, went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in his first collegiate at bat. He knocked in a total of four runs and scored twice. Igor Baez hit a bases clearing double in the fifth inning. Local product and high school teammate of Dasher's at St. Joseph Academy, David Drysdale, hit a two-run single in the eighth.

Evan Krenz (0-1), the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Pitcher of the Year in 2016, tossed four innings and surrendered six hits and four earned runs. He walked three and fanned two. Richard Marte, Hardvis Batista and Zach Radar finished up the game on the hill for the Lions.

Jahziel Morel, a preseason All-SIAC selection, collected a pair of singles.

The same two teams meet in a doubleheader tomorrow (Feb. 4) at 1 p.m. The first game will be a nine-inning game while the second will go seven innings in length.
