Saints blow past Lady Bulldogs, 8-0

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Ally Marcano tossed a three-hit shutout to lead Flagler College to an 8-0 win over in a non-conference softball game against Barton College Friday evening at Tyger River Park during the Mid-South Classic.

The Saints improved their overall record to 9-8 and the Lady Bulldogs fell to 6-4 overall.

Marcano (7-1), the reigning Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Pitcher of the Week, fanned eight hitters. After allowing a lead-off single in the first inning, she retired the next eight-of-nine batters. She allowed only one base runner to reach scoring position.

Flagler jumped on Barton in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Alli-Anne Bigale drew a walk and scored on a two-out single by Maddy Murphy.

The Saints poured on three more runs in the third with the help of an error and a wild pitch. Maddy Murphy scored the third run of the frame on a sacrifice fly to left field by Garland Evans.

In the sixth, Cassie Patterson singled through the left side scoring Maria Kappos to extend the advantage to 5-0.

Flagler scored three more times in the eighth to secure the win. Mackenzie Conley smacked an RBI double in the frame and pinch hitter Jaclyn Mijuskovic picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Maddy Murphy had three hits and Bigale scored two of the Saints five runs. Conley also tallied two hits.

Sierra Hearp (2-1) suffered the loss for the Lady Bulldogs. She allowed five runs on seven hits over six innings. Hearp walked two and struck out seven.
