Saints split a pair against the Tritons

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Flagler College split a doubleheader with Eckerd College on Wednesday night at the Turley Complex after a two-hour weather delay prior to the first game. Ally Marcano fired a two-hit shutout to lead the Saints to a 4-0 win over the Tritons. Eckerd took the second game, 8-3.
 
Flagler is now 6-6 this season while Eckerd is 7-6.
 
Marcano (4-1) won her fourth-consecutive decision with another dominant pitching performance. She struck out a season-high 10 batters. Marcano retired 12-of-the-last-14 batters she faced.

Natalie Murphy paced the Saints' 14-hit attack in the first game with a pair of singles and she drove in three-of-the-four Flagler runs. Natalie Murphy sent Mackenzie Conley home on a single in the third and scored Genevieve Mangini and Morgan Murphy on a base hit in the sixth.
 
Conley opened the game's scoring with an RBI single in the first. Conley and Whitney Woodard each had three hits in the contest.
 
Nikole Van Gennep (4-5) suffered the loss for Eckerd allowing four runs on 14 hits in seven innings of work.
 
Eckerd took control of the second game after four scoreless innings by putting five on the board in the fifth. Emily Knox capped the scoring with an RBI double down the left field line. She had the only extra-base hit in the frame.
 
The Saints cut the lead to 5-3 in the top of the sixth. Natalie Murphy continued her hot hitting with an RBI triple. She scored during the play on a muffed throw at third base. Maddy Murphy knocked in Woodard on a single earlier in the inning.
 
The Tritons pulled away in the bottom of the eighth by plating three unearned runs aided by two errors.
 
Katelynn Smith (2-4) took the loss allowing five runs over 4 2/3 innings. Janna Gaburo  (1-0) won her first game of the season surrendering three runs, one unearned, on just two hits while going the distance.
 
The Saints will return home to host the Flagler Classic this weekend. Flagler will open against Wingate University of Saturday (Feb. 18) at 12 p.m. at Flagler Field.
