Saints rally twice to sweep Tritons

ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College scored nine unanswered run in a 9-5 victory in the opener and then trailed early in the second game only to score eight runs in the last three innings to roll to an 11-3 win in a pair of non-conference baseball games on Saturday afternoon at Drysdale Field.

Flagler improved to 6-1 overall and it swept the three-game series. Eckerd lost its fourth game in a row and dropped to 2-5 on the season.

In the opener, the Saints sent 11 men to the plate and scored six runs on seven hits to wipe out a 5-1 lead by the Tritons. Jeremy Taylor greeted Eckerd reliever Joey Favatte with a two-run triple to left-center to give Flagler a 6-5 lead. He later scored on Dylan Jones' single through the right side. That was Jones' second hit of the inning as he led off with a solo home run.

Cole Ondrejka gave the Saints a little more insurance with a two-run home run in the seventh inning.

MacLain Larson (1-0) earned the win in relief. He tossed three scoreless innings and scattered three hits. Dante Pagano recorded his first save as he worked three scoreless innings and allowed only one hit and fanned two. Dustin Dye started for the Saints and he went three innings.

Jason Moore led the 14-hit attack going 3-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and he scored two runs. Ondrejka went 2-for-4 with the double, three RBI and two runs scored. Jones had two hits, including the homer, and he knocked in two runs. Taylor had a single, to go along with his triple, and collected two RBI as well as scoring a run.

Justin Glover led the Tritons going 2-for-4 with a grand slam in the first inning. Nick Conti collected two singles.

In game two, the score was tied at 3-all going into the bottom of the sixth inning. Taylor doubled in Jake Hathaway, from second base, to give Flagler the lead and then Sean Lawlor singled home Taylor and the Saints took a 5-3 lead.

Michael Maiocco (2-0) cruised on the mound as he tossed seven innings, scattered seven hits, allowed three runs, walked one and struck out six to earn the win. Ethan Jones and Luke Cooksey each pitched one inning in relief.
