Flagler erupts late to rout Florida Tech, 14-5

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Flagler College used a three-run sixth inning to erase a 5-3 deficit and then went on to score eight more times in the last three innings to roll to a 14-5 win over Florida Tech in a non-conference baseball game at Seminick-Hall Field.

Flagler extended its winning streak to four game and improved to 7-1 overall. Florida Tech had its three-game winning streak snapped and fell to 6-2 overall. The loss was its first at home (3-1) this season.

Trailing 5-3 in the top of the sixth, Josh Pagliei hit an RBI single to center and Dylan Jones followed with a two-run double to right to give the Saints a 6-5 lead.

Flagler plated two in the seventh, two unearned runs in the eighth, and in the ninth, Jeremy Taylor and Pagliei hit back-to-back solo home runs while Jake Hathaway capped the scoring with a run scoring single.

Nick Martinez (1-1) tossed 2 2/3 perfect innings in relief to earn the win. He struck out six-of-the-eight batters he faced. Dante Pagano and Luke Cooksey finished the game and kept the Panthers off the board. Louis Pugliese started and tossed 2 1/3 innings.

Pagliei finished 4-for-5 to pace the 18-hit attack. He hit the home run, scored three runs and knocked in two runs. Cole Ondrejka also collected four hits, which included a double, two RBI and he scored two runs. Jones hit three doubles, drove in four runs and scored another. Hathaway went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and one RBI.

Reid Neal collected three singles for the Panthers. He scored a run and drove in another. John Sternagel went 2-for-3 with a double and scored a run. Nick Capra went 2-for-3 with a solo home run.

Sam Crocker (0-1) tossed 2 1/3 innings in relief, allowed four hits and three runs in picking up the loss. He was one of seven pitchers used by the Panthers.

Flagler continues on the road as they will head to West Palm Beach for a three-game weekend series at Palm Beach Atlantic University. The first game is Friday night at 6 p.m. at Rubin Park.
