Vaughn McCall scored 21 of his game-high 26 points in the second half, but it wasn't enough as Flagler College fell to Clayton State University 74-65 in a mutual Peach Belt Conference men's basketball opener Saturday afternoon at the Athletics and Fitness Center.
Clayton State improved to 3-2 on the season while Flagler had its two-game winning streak snapped and fell to 3-2.
Cortlin Davis added 14 points and seven rebounds while
Damerit Brown contributed nine points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Saints.
Flagler shot a frigid 26.7 percent (8-30) from the field in the first half and trailed at the half 37-18. The Saints were much hotter in the second half as they made 55.6 percent (15-27) of their shots.
Jaylen Taylor and Denzel Council each scored 18 points for the Lakers. Justin Tuckson added 13 points while Jamil McKee grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Nathan Powell dished out five assists.
The Saints closed the game on a 20-8 run.
Flagler will break for exams and return to action on Dec. 16 against the University of North Georgia at 3:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
