MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. –
Karlie Redfern recorded a match-high 10 kills and added five blocks to earn most valuable players honors and lead Flagler College to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-21) win over Georgia College in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship match Sunday afternoon at the Centennial Center.
Flagler won the program's sixth conference tournament title, and its third in a row, to earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Tournament's southeast regional. The Saints extended their win streak to 19 matches and improved to 24-3 overall. Flagler has won eight consecutive PBC Tournament matches. Georgia College falls to 23-7 and will wait and see if it has earned one of the five at-large berths tomorrow. The official release of the 64-team field will be announced tomorrow (Nov. 20) at 7:30 p.m. on ncaa.com.
Taja Valmyr added nine kills, 12 digs and had four blocks for the Saints.
Sara Davis finished with six kills and seven blocks while
Raquel Kulak added six kills and seven blocks. Last year, Kulak was on the Armstrong State University team that lost in the conference tournament final to Flagler.
Kayla Norelli scooped up a match-high 22 digs.
Tara Savisky notched her ninth double-double of the season with 31 assists and 11 digs. She was selected to the all-tournament team.
Flagler tied its season-high with 13.0 team blocks. The block party was in full force in the third set when they recorded 6.0 team blocks. Kulak had four while Redfern had three and Davis and Valmyr each had two.
Libby Bochniak finished with nine kills and 12 digs for the Bobcats. Kayla Brockway tallied 29 assists and had nine digs. Both were selected to the all-tournament team. Ebony Powers contributed nine kills and 11 digs while Chandler Ewaldsen collected 18 digs.
The Bobcats were limited to a -.048 hitting percentage in the first set. They had eight kills and 10 errors on 42 swings.
The all-tournament team was: Savanna Gonzales, Augusta University; Rebecca Martinez, USC Aiken; Brockway and Bochniak, Georgia College; Savisky and Redfern (MVP), Flagler.
