Panthers rally past Saints

ATLANTA, Ga. – Vaughn McCall scored 17 of his team-high 26 points in the second half, but Flagler College fell short in its first road game of the season against Clark Atlanta University, 77-76, at Epps Gymnasium.

Clark Atlanta, a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletics Conference, remained undefeated at 4-0. Flagler's record falls to an even 1-1.

The Saints held a nine-point (74-65) lead with 3:24 left to go in the game, but the Panthers answered with a 10-0 spurt over the next 1:15 to take a short-lived 75-74 lead.

With 32 seconds left, McCall sank a pair of free throws to give the Saints the lead back. However, with 19 seconds left, Austin Donaldson made a pair of free throws to put Clark Atlanta in the lead and a 3-point shot by Cortlin Davis with seven seconds left rimmed out and the Panthers grabbed the rebound as time expired.

Damerit Brown and Davis each added 19 points for the Saints. Jeffercy Jean grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and dished out a team-high five assists.

Flagler sank eight 3-pointers with McCall and Brown each made four. The Saints also out-rebounded the Panthers 45-34. Flagler was forced into 22 turnovers which led to 29 Clark Atlanta points.

Shelvick Henry led the Panthers with 26 points, six rebounds and five assists. He was a perfect 10-for-10 at the line. Akil Douglas added 15 points and seven rebounds while Donaldson chipped in with 11 points, six rebounds and five steals.

Flagler controlled the pace of the game in the first half and held a 31-27 lead. Clark Atlanta came in averaging 98.0 points per game, but was limited to 28.2 percent (11-39) shooting in the first half.

The Panthers found their offense in the second half as they made 47.1 percent (16-34) of their shots from the field, including sinking 10-of-11 (90.9%) from 3-point range.
