ST. AUGUSTINE – Florida National University stifled Flagler College's offense at Saints Field on Monday afternoon and claimed a 2-0 win in a non-conference men's soccer match.
Flagler fell to 3-7-0 overall while Florida National, a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, remained undefeated at 11-0-0.
Pedro Veiga opened the scoring in the 35
th minute by taking a pass in the box from Rodrigo Costa and putting it in goal. Veigo returned the favor 47 seconds into the second half. Veigo found Costa to the left of him in the box and Costa finished the play with a goal. Costa took a game-high six shots.
Florida National took 15 shots, 10 of which came during the first half.
Jesper Olsson made the start in goal for Flagler and made four saves during the first half. He made five stops overall. Rodrigo Fetuccia did not face a shot as Florida National's goalkeeper. He played 71 minutes and Jorge Sanhueza finished the game in net.
The Conquistadors took five corner kicks while the Saints had one.
Flagler was whistled for 21 fouls while Florida National had 10. Denilson De Almeida was given a red card for the Conquistadors less than five minutes remaining in the match.
Flagler will head to Winter Park for a match against Rollins College on Saturday (Oct. 14) at noon.
