ST. AUGUSTINE –
Katie Reed's goal in the 11
th minute proved to be all of the offense No. 9 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) Flagler College would need in a 1-0 win over the University of Tampa in a non-conference women's soccer match Wednesday night at Saints Field.
Flagler improved to 12-0-2 overall while Tampa dropped to 6-5-1. The Saints are a perfect 6-0-0 at home. This was Flagler's first win over Tampa in the brief three-game series.
Charlene Nowotny took control of the ball near midfield and dribbled in from the right sideline and found Reed open in the middle of the box. Reed fired a shot into the lower right corner of the goal to put Flagler on the board
Flagler keeper
Sarah-Lisa Dubel turned in her fourth clean sheet, and second in a row, of the season with six saves. She used her 6-foot-1 frame to save a header by Lacy Nasello in the 19
th minute.
Caroline Frykgard of Tampa tallied one save.
Tampa held a 9-6 edge in shots and a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Up next for the Saints is a showdown at No. 15 Columbus State University on Saturday (Oct. 21) at 1 p.m. The Lady Cougars are in first place in the Peach Belt Conference with 21 points while the Saints are third with 18 points.
