PEMBROKE, N.C. –
Fio Fustagno and
Abby Austin tallied goals for No. 5 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) Flagler College, but the University of North Carolina Pembroke was able to tie the match with 1-minute and 13-seconds left to go in regulation. That is where the score stood through two overtimes periods as the teams played to a 2-2 tie in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Wednesday afternoon at the Lumbee River EMC Field.
Flagler leaves with a 10-0-2 record while UNC Pembroke is now 7-3-1 overall.
The equalizer came off the foot of UNCP's Stacey Scott who shot over the keeper. Katy Ryan and Carly Rochelle assisted on the goal.
The Saints broke the 1-all tie when Austin scored an unassisted goal in the 78
th minute as she lofted a ball over the Braves keeper who was on the ground after a free kick that preceded the goal.
Fustagno netted her 10
th goal of the season, a header off a cross from
Concepcion Sanchez, just 1:44 into the match. The goal was Flagler's quickest first goal since Oct. 26, 2015, when
Kaela Harmon scored 1-minute and 27-seconds into the match at UNC Pembroke.
Saah-Lisa Dubel saved six shots for the Saints while Gina Ryan tallied seven saves for the Braves.
Flagler out-shot UNCP 25-15 and both teams had 10 corner kicks. The Braves were whistled for 14 fouls while Flagler had nine.
Flagler remains on the road and will face Rollins College on Saturday (Oct. 14) in Winter Park, Florida at 7 p.m.
