AMERICUS, Ga. – Flagler College's struggles on the road continue as it suffered an 84-74 set-back to Georgia Southwestern State University Monday night in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game at the Storm Dome.
Georgia Southwestern snapped a three-game losing streak to improve to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in the Peach Belt. Flagler suffered its fourth loss in a row and fell to 6-5 overall and 1-4 in conference play. The Saints have lost their last 16 road games in a row.
The Hurricanes used an early 17-8 run in the second half to take a 57-40 lead and never looked back. Brandon Price accounted for seven of those points in the run. Georgia Southwestern widened its gap to 18 (64-46) after a pair of Colt Yawn free throws with 8:37 remaining.
The Saints later countered with a 17-7 run to close the gap to six (78-72) with 1:19 left. But the Hurricanes scored the last six of eight points in the game.
Tevin Wise led all scorers with 23 points and he sank 5 of 10 from 3-point range for the Hurricanes. Price added 19 points and dished out a game-high seven assists. Cameron Clayton came off of the bench to provide 16 points, 12 of which came in the second half. Devin Watson tacked on 13 points. Colt Yawn contributed eight points and seven assists.
Cortlin Davis led the Saints with 21 points on 8 of 12 shooting from the field.
Jeffercy Jean tallied 15 points while
Vaughn McCall added 14 points.
Ben Bobbitt came off the bench to provide 12 points.
Chris Williams grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds before fouling out with 2:39 left to go.
Flagler takes on division rival Lander University on Wednesday (Jan. 11) at Greenwood, South Carolina at 7:30 p.m.
