GREENWOOD, S.C. – Lander University opened the game on an 13-2 run and never looked back in a 73-58 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference East Division men's basketball game Wednesday night at Finis Horne Arena.
Lander improved to 5-9 overall and 2-3 in the Peach Belt. Flagler dropped to .500 at 6-6 overall and 1-5 in conference play in the first divisional game for both teams.
After a
Jeffercy Jean jumper opened the scoring in the game, Lander would rattle off the next 13 points as Rahu Purdie and Chris Tate were responsible for nine of those points.
The Saints would get as close as five points for the remainder of the game.
JR Washington scored 11 of his game-high 19 points in the second half for the Bearcats. He added six rebounds, five steals and four assists to his line. Purdie added 17 points and seven rebounds while Tate contributed 16 points, six rebounds and blocked three shots.
Vaughn McCall led Flagler with 14 points while
Arnas Dautartas added 11 points and seven rebounds in just his second game with the team.
Jeffercy Jean added 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Flagler was held to its lowest point output of the season as well as its lowest field goal percentage, .339.
Flagler hosts the University of Montevallo on Saturday (Jan. 14) at 3:30 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
