Flagler runs past Armstrong State, 99-89

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Jeffercy Jean led a balanced scoring attack with 19 points and Flagler College scored 20 fastbreak points in a 99-89 win over Armstrong State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Monday night at Alumni Arena

Flagler halted a two-game losing streak and raised its overall record to 9-10 and moved to 3-9 in the Peach Belt. Armstrong had its three-game winning streak snapped, which included wins over Augusta and at UNC Pembroke. The Pirates fell to 9-12 overall and 4-8 in conference play.

Six Saints scored in double-figures. Jean added seven rebounds and four assists to his line before fouling out. Chris Williams added 17 points and seven rebounds before being disqualified. Cortlin Davis recorded his fourth double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Vaughn McCall tallied 14 points and he dished out five assists. Kessler Bell supplied 13 points in a reserve role and Ben Bobbitt finished with 10 points and four steals.

Flagler shot a blistering 77.4 percent (24-31) from the floor in the second half and finished with a season-best 61.2 percent (41-67) mark. The Saints were productive in the post as they scored 54 of their 99 points in the paint.

Arnas Dautartas sank a 3-pointer with 9:25 left in the first half to give Flagler a 22-20 lead. The Saints never trailed the rest of the game. Flagler held a 42-32 lead at the half.

Corey Tillery, who was selected as the PBC's Player of the Week earlier this afternoon, led the Pirates with 22 points. He torched Augusta University for 36 points with the help of 10 3-pointers last week. Kalen Clifton added 21 points. K.J. James and Denzel Council scored 19 and 18 points, respectively. Three Pirates finished with six rebounds apiece.

Flagler will visit UNC Pembroke on Wednesday (Feb. 1) at 7:30 p.m.
