Augusta rolls past Flagler

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University scored the first 19 points of the game and never looked back in an 84-49 victory over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Augusta won its seventh game in a row to improve to 14-3 overall and 7-2 in the Peach Belt. Flagler falls to 7-8 overall and 2-7 in conference play.

The Jaguars made 75% (8-12) of their shots in the first 12:21 of the game and the Saints missed their first nine shots from the field, including four from 3-point range. Flagler also turned the ball over five times which led to seven points. Augusta's Keshun Sherrill accounted for 10 points in that run.

Sherrill scored a team-high 20 points for the Jaguars on 8 of 16 shooting from the field. He sank four 3-pointers and tallied a game-high six assists. Tyvez Monroe scored 13 of his 16 points in the first half. He grabbed seven rebounds. Ja'Shawn Brooks also recorded seven rebounds.

The Jaguars out-rebounded the Saints 50-29 and held a 28-14 advantage in points in the paint. Augusta forced 18 turnovers which led to 21 points. The Jaguars held a 36-20 lead at the half and then shot 54.1% (20-37) in the second half.  

Vaughn McCall led the Saints with a game-high 21 points on 7 of 11 shooting. Jeffercy Jean added 12 points and five rebounds.

Flagler was held to a season-low 32% shooting mark from the field and made just 26.1% (6-23) in the first half.

The Saints play their final non-conference game of the season on Saturday (Jan. 21) against Trinity College of Florida at 4 p.m. at Flagler Gymnasium.
