ST. AUGUSTINE –
Cortlin Davis scored a season-high 26 points and added 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the year as Flagler College defeated a stubborn Trinity College of Florida team 83-71 in a non-conference men's basketball game at Flagler Gymnasium Saturday evening.
Flagler evened its recorded at 8-8. For Trinity, a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association Division II, the game was an exhibition.
The Saints used an 18-7 run midway through the second half to take their largest lead, 79-59.
Ben Bobbitt scored seven of Flagler's points in that five-plus minute spurt.
Davis made 13-of-his-21 shots from the field which included a 7-of-10 performance in the second half.
Vaughn McCall and Bobbitt each added 16 points. Bobbitt tied his career-high with four steals.
Chris Williams finished with eight points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots.
Jeffercy Jean contributed eight points, nine rebounds, six assists and he added a career-high five blocked shots to his line.
Flagler shot 50 percent (37-74) from the field and out-scored Trinity in the paint 58-48. The Saints grabbed 14 offensive rebounds, led by Davis' six, and scored 21 second chance points. Flagler tied a Division II era record with 11 blocked shots. The Saints swatted 11 shots last year (Nov. 21, 2015) against Portland (Oregon) Bible College.
Flagler held a 39-37 lead at the half.
Kenton Bibbs led Trinity with 24 points on 11-of-15 shooting. Kevin Simmons recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. John Coleman tallied 11 points and six steals while Brandan Fisher scored 10 points, grabbed seven rebounds and tallied four assists.
Flagler returns to Peach Belt Conference play on Wednesday (Jan. 25) at 7:30 p.m. against Francis Marion University at Flagler Gymnasium on "Tony's Barbershop Night."
