Sara Davis recorded a match-high 21 kills and hit a career-best .633 while
Taja Valmyr supplied 17 kills and hit .341 as Flagler College defeated the University of South Carolina Aiken 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-15) in a Peach Belt Conference match Saturday afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.
Flagler improved to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the Peach Belt. USC Aiken dropped to 10-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
Davis was pretty close to flawless after the first set. She had 16 kills on 20 swings without committing an error for an .800 hitting percentage. Valmyr had a quality fourth set with five kills on eight errorless swings for a .625 hitting percentage. The .328 hitting percentage as a team was a season best. Flagler finished with 55 kills and 13 errors on 128 swings. The Saints hit a sizzling .533 in the fourth set with 17 kills and they had just one error on 30 swings.
Tara Savisky tallied 45 assists while
Kayla Norelli paced the defense with 15 digs and she added four service aces.
Megan Hooks chipped in with eight kills and five digs.
Ashley Cheewah recorded three total blocks.
Taylor Stratton led USC Aiken with a 17 kills and she hit .306. Julia Forster added 14 kills and rounded out the double-double with 11 digs. Emily Teelon tallied 48 assists while Danielle Mercer collected a match-high 18 digs.
Flagler will travel to Columbus, Georgia to face Columbus State University on Friday (Sept. 30) at 6 p.m. in its first conference road trip.
