FLORENCE, S.C. – Flagler College fell to Carson-Newman University, 7-0, in a neutral site game at Francis Marion University on Saturday afternoon.
The Saints fell to 0-3-1 on the season and the Eagles improved to 2-1-0.
Tom Read had four assists in the match for Carson-Newman, including two on corner kicks within the first 15 minutes of the game. Read also netted his first goal of the season in the 73
rd minute of play. Steven Perry had his first two scores of the season in the first half.
The Eagles had six different goal scorers during the match and scored three times in the first half and four times in the second half.
Keiron Matthews got off four shots for Flagler, including one of the Saints' three shots on goal.
Henrique Salomao had Flagler's other two shots on goal.
Jesper Olsson played the first 45 minutes in goal for the Saints and
Mel Broughton finished the final 45 minutes. Olsson surrendered three goals and Broughton allowed four. James Boyd made three saves for the Eagles while keeping Flagler scoreless.
Flagler outshot Carson-Newman 15-14 during the contest.
The Flagler Saints return to St. Augustine for a Peach Belt Conference matchup against Young Harris College at 7:30 pm at Saints Field on Saturday (Sept. 17).
