ST. AUGUSTINE – Callie Reed fired a complete game four-hit shutout of the Young Harris College Mountain Lions (17-7, 4-2) in game two of Saturday's Peach Belt Conference doubleheader. The Flagler College Saints (17-14, 2-6) salvaged a split after dropping the first game 5-0. Young Harris took an early lead in the second inning of the first game on a fielder's choice. Whitney Woodard made a diving stop at shortstop holding the Mountain Lions to one run as Sarah Beth Marquis scored on the play. Lindsay Tudor and Sarah Magill played long ball in the seventh giving Young Harris four insurance runs. Tudor smacked a solo shot to right to lead off the inning and Magill followed with a three-run homer to center extending the Mountain Lions lead to 5-0.
Haleigh Corbally (7-5) suffered the game one loss surrendering three runs over six innings. Corbally kept Young Harris scoreless from the third to the sixth frame. Darby Stanford (13-1) earned the win tossing seven scoreless innings.She retired 16 batters on ground outs. Following two scoreless frames to start the second game, Flagler jumped out to a 1-0 in the third. Malloree Escue and Mackenzie Conley doubled in succession scoring Escue as Conley picked up the RBI. Reed (7-4) struck out five hitters and walked three while holding the Mountain Lions scoreless over her seven innings of work to earn the win. Jeanie Perrucci (2-5) suffered the loss for Young Harris allowing the game's only run in the third.
Hannah Hudson collected two singles for the Saints. The Saints will return to action on Monday (March 14) against No. 12, according to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll (NFCA), University of North Georgia Nighthawks. The first game of the doubleheader is slated for 4 p.m. The first 100 Flagler students, faculty, and staff at the game will receive a free Flagler softball t-shirt.
