TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Flagler College used a big seven-run seventh inning to cruise in game one, 13-0, and then a
Whitney Woodard solo home run in the fifth proved to be the insurance needed in a 5-4 win in game two to complete a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Tuskegee University Sunday afternoon at the TU Softball Field.
Flagler improved to 14-9 overall while Tuskegee fell to 0-17.
In the opener,
Malloree Escue socked a solo home run and later, a two-run home run to pace a 17-hit barrage by the Saints.
Garland Evans went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs batted in and two runs scored.
Tori Volz collected a pair of singles and knocked in a run.
Maddy Murphy went 2-for-4 with a triple and she scored two runs.
Keeley Murray added two singles.
Haleigh Corbally (6-4) tossed a complete game two-hit shutout as she walked two and struck out seven batters which tied her season-high. She had a no-hitter through four innings complete.
Sharde Thomas and Chante Warner had singles for the Lady Golden Tigers.
Karisa Foye (0-3) tossed 3.1 innings, allowed seven hits and five runs.
In game two, the Saints trailed 3-2 going into the top of the fourth. Escue got things started with a one-out single and then took second on a wild pitch. Two batters later, she scored on a double by Murphy to tie the game, and later
Hannah Hudson's single knocked in
Mackenzie Conley to give the Saints a 4-3 lead.
Escue finished with a pair of singles and a run scored while Murphy went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Hudson singled twice and drove in a run. Evans collected two singles.
Tinsley Smith (2-0) picked up the win in relief. She tossed five innings, surrendered only two hits and one run to go along with three walks and two strikeouts. She induced eight ground outs.
Kaylin Finch belted a two-run homer in the first inning for Tuskegee.
Morgan Burrell (0-2) picked up the loss in the circle. She went the distance, allowed 12 hits and four earned runs.
Flagler returns to action on Wednesday (March 2) when it travels to Lakeland to take on Florida Southern College at 6 p.m.
