MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Flagler College was able to plate five unearned runs with the help of two Georgia College errors and a pair of passed balls in an 8-4 win Friday night at John Kurtz Field in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game.
Flagler improved to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College fell to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The Saints struck early with a pair of runs in the first inning and then erupted for four more in the second. Flagler sent nine men to the plate in the second inning and three of the four runs were unearned.
Georgia College starting pitcher Conner Alford (0-1) retired the first two batters in the inning, but
Josh Pagliei singled up the middle to keep the inning going.
Bryce Evans followed with a single to left and Pagliei moved up a base.
Kolin McMillen sent a 0-1 pitch down the left field line for a double which scored Pagliei and the Saints increased its lead to 3-1. After a walk loaded the bases,
Lorenzo Butler reached first on an error by the Bobcat first baseman, Harris Lyons, which allowed Evans to score.
Igor Baez completed the scoring with a two-run single and just like that Flagler held a 6-1 lead.
That would be enough for Saints ace
Mike O'Reilly (2-1) who tossed seven innings, scattered nine hits, allowed one earned run and fanned seven. He retired 12 batters on fly outs.
Michael Hanke closed the game.
Nick Oberg paced the 12-hit attack by the Saints with an RBI single and a solo home run.
Cole Ondrejka went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and one run batted in. Evans collected two singles and scored a run while Baez had a single, a double, two RBI and he scored a run. Pagliei collected two singles and scored a run.
Alford tossed 1.2 innings for the Bobcats and allowed six hits, two earned runs, walked two and struck out three. He was one of four pitchers used by Georgia College. Bradley Spinner tossed five scoreless innings in relief.
The 3-4-5 hitters for the Bobcats had nine of the team's 12 hits. Dylan Cook went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored while Matthew Miller collected three singles. Brandon Purcell also finished with three singles and he scored a run.
The same two teams meet tomorrow (Feb. 20) at 3 p.m.
