Flagler edges Georgia College, 5-4

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – James Jean's RBI triple in the sixth inning proved to be the game-winning hit as Flagler College defeated Georgia College 5-4 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday afternoon at John Kurtz Field.

Flagler won its third game in a row and evened its overall record at 4-4 and improved to 2-3 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College lost its third game in a row and fell to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The Saints will go for the series sweep tomorrow at 1 p.m.

The Saints jumped ahead early when a Frankie Sagarese singled scored Igor Baez in the second inning. Flagler struck three times in third with the help of an RBI single by Cole Ondrejka and an RBI double by Lorenzo Butler.

But in the sixth inning, Flagler finally got to Georgia College reliever Cameron Busby. He had retired nine of 10 batters, including five in a row, before Nick Oberg reached on an infield single. Jean then laced an 0-2 pitch to left field and stretched it into a triple, scoring Oberg from first to give the Saints a 5-1 lead.

The Bobcats made a push in the later innings. They got a run back in the bottom of the sixth and then got two more in the eighth – one scoring on a double play and the other on a base hit to center by Garrett Green. With runners on the corners and two outs down by one run, Flagler reliever Jeremy Graf got Logan Mattix to strike out looking to end the inning. Graf retired all three batters in the ninth to earn his first save of the season.

Dustin Dye (1-1) tossed five-plus innings and he scattered five hits and allowed two runs to earn the victory.

Ondrejka collected three singles, scored a run and picked up one run batted in. Kolin McMillen singled twice and scored a run while Jean went 2-for-4 with the triple and an RBI.

Logan Howard (0-1) lasted just two-plus innings for the Bobcats. He allowed six hits and three runs before giving way to Busby.

Wesley Wommack collected three singles as did Green
