Flagler routs Rollins in game one but falls just short in game two

ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College (5-8) routed Rollins College (2-1-1) 9-3 in the first game of Friday's doubleheader, but dropped the second 5-4 after mounting a two-run rally in the seventh inning.

Flagler trailed 3-2 entering the fourth inning of the first game, but stormed back for seven runs in that frame to take a commanding lead. Whitney Woodard drove Garland Evans and Maddy Murphy home with a double putting the Saints in front for the first time since the first inning. Later, Mallory Allen hit a bases-clearing double.

Tinsley Smith entered the contest in the fifth inning and tossed three scoreless innings allowing just two hits in relief of Haleigh Corbally. Corbally earned the win for the Saints improving to 1-4 on the year. She allowed three runs through four innings of work. Niki Fogle suffered the loss for Rollins surrendering nine runs over three and two-thirds innings.

The Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two. Woodard opened the game with a double and scored on a Hannah Hudson single. Allen capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly sending in Malloree Escue.

Rollins put three up in the third and two up in the fourth to take a 5-2 advantage. Tiffany Osmanski and Courtney Durbin homered back-to-back in the fourth to highlight the scoring.

Flagler cut the deficit to 5-4 in the seventh inning. Woodard singled and Tori Volz reached on an error to start the frame. Hudson then sent in both runners on a double to center field. Fogle shut the door from there picking up her second win of the season and improving to 2-1 after the game one loss.

Callie Reed (4-3) took the loss for the Saints in game two surrendering five runs through three innings.

Flagler will travel to Miami Shores to take on Barry University for a doubleheader on Sunday (Feb. 12) at 12 p.m. The Saints return to St. Augustine to host the Flagler Tournament beginning on February 20.
